walking distance. Ivernia B&B is an ideal base for touring Connemara, visiting en route
Roundstone and then travelling along the coast road to Clifden, Kylemore Abbey
and gardens: On to Leenane location of film "The Field".
Through Connemara National Park and if there is time go along the shores of
Lough Corrib (the largest lake in Ireland) to visit Ashford Castle and Cong -
location of the film "The Quiet Man".
A second day can be spent visiting The Aran Islands, renowned for their
unique way of life. The Islands have a rich history, which can be seen from
their ancient monuments from both Prehistoric and Christian times.
On another day you can tour The Burren - a world - renowned geological and
botanical wonder. Visit the Aillwee Caves, the Poulnabrone Dolmen and the Cliffs
of Moher.
To the east of Galway are many places of historical, religious and cultural
significance.
- The Turoe Stone - dates from 200BC: Athenry Castle.
- Clonfert Cathedral, one of the jewels of Irish Romanesque
architecture.
- Thoor Ballylee - the former home of the writer, W.B.Yeats
and nearby Cool Park – famous for Coole Lake, where W. B. Yeats wrote about
the “nine and fifty swans"
Galway is a haven for the golfer. Within a 10 - minute drive are the
following renowned golf courses.
